As you are aware the format for the U20 Championships details a knockout with a losers group.
At tonight’s meeting of Offaly CCC the arrangement for that process was decided and the draws made, as per attached documents.
The Championships will commence on Weekend 18th to 20th of October.
Group teams are requested to nominate their home by return email.
The following should be noted in relation to the fixing of games.
· When making fixtures the following have to be taken into consideration
o Offaly Senior & Junior Hurling Finals
o Offaly Minor Hurling and Football Finals
o Offaly Combined Schools Hurling & Football Competitions
o Offaly Individual Schools Competitions
o Leinster Junior/Intermediate/Senior Hurling & Football Championships
o Third Level College Competitions
o Offaly Senior Hurlers Holiday November 30th to December 7th
· In light of the above, it may not be possible to play full rounds of fixtures in the same time period.
· Games may be played mid-week.
· Championship Regulation 8
In the event of a draw in an U-20 Hurling or U-20 Football championship knock-out game (Play-Off, Semi-Final, Final),
extra time and Winner on the Day Regulations (where necessary), will apply
· Championship Regulation 17
If a club has no floodlights, they must nominate a pitch for home games, if required.
Failing to do so, the Competitions Control Committee (CCC) will nominate a pitch
· Championship Regulation 21
If home teams in the U20 championships (hurling & football) have no access to Floodlights, they will have to travel to
the opposition venue or to a venue nominated by the C.C.C.
Championship Regulation 22
· All U-20 Football & Hurling Championships games to be played home or away except Semi/Finals & Final. If the home venue is unplayable,
or if floodlights are required and not available, the game will automatically switch to the venue of the opposing team or if opposing team
has no floodlights to a neutral venue, confirmed by the CCC.
Doon exile....

Hard to know really. Don’t think it would be a surprise if they win it out. Can’t speak for other clubs but I think Crc Gaels will have a decent enough outfit again this year.frankthetank wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 2:54 pm Anyone who can give Kilcormac / Killoughey a game here?

Re: U20 club championship
Clara/brosna gaels will be pretty strong. The entire team will have played either senior B and junior A hurling. They will have Shirley, Doyle, egan, Dalton as a spine but compared with kk........ DSk will be pretty strong also? balinamere should be good along with carrig.

Re: U20 club championship
With the under 20 championship underway I looked at the structure of it. It’s actually mental how they came up with the football one.
Shamrocks played Cloghan last Sunday with Cloghan winning . The winner should be rewarded ?? Nope the opposite the loser shamrocks goes straight to a quarter final whereas Cloghan has to play Kk to get to a quarter final.
St Vincent’s play durrow in the first rd with both the winner and loser going direct to a quarter final.
Clara played st Broughans last night and won but their reward for winning is to play either Tullamore or St Manchans before they get to a quarter final .
Wheery won their first rd and their reward is to play st Michaels who won their first rd before they get to a quarter final.
Their is more of a reward in losing first rd games than winning them
Tullamore are better off losing to Manchans as they play St Broughans then who are weak but if they were to win they play Clara who are very strong
It’s hard follow I know but whatever genius came up with this and then the genius that passed it need to be ran
Clubs obviously haven’t looked at it in detail until as they were more concerned with other championships.

You know it's an awful system when you hear players saying they would be better off losing their opening game. Unbeleivable this one.del wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 7:43 am With the under 20 championship underway I looked at the structure of it. It’s actually mental how they came up with the football one.

Re: U20 club championship
Is it the same format for hurling
Re: U20 club championship
What is the format of the championship? From what I can see on the fixture page on the website there are 12 teams, with 6 1st round games. Then it looks like there is a Round 2 winners section and a round 2 losers section. How does that work if there are 6 teams in each section (do 2 teams get a bye to round 3 of each section)? What happens if you win/lose your round 2 fixture and does it depend if you are in the losers or winners section?
