I think it would be fair to say kk would be slight favs based on their numbers on the minor team also with two senior kk starters.

I think St.Brendans would probably be more solid throughout.

Should be a great game.

A few things in advance of tomorrow’s final.

I’m almost certain this is the first time St Brendan’s CS and Coláiste Naomh Cormac have opposed each other in Senior schools hurling championship, given Birr competed at A grade since 1974 until a few years ago, while Kilcormac competed in Vocational Schools and then at C grade.

The Leinster B championship has seen 31 different winners in the 64 years it has been run. And the last 15 times the championship was run (there was none in 2021) has seen 14 different winners. Only Johnstown has won it twice in that time.

This is the first time two Offaly schools have opposed each other in a Leinster final.

With just six schools competing at A grade, St Brendan's CS and Coláiste Naomh Cormac have justifiable claims to be the 7th and 8th ranked schools in Leinster.

The winners will advance to meet St Louis Ballymena in the All-Ireland semi-final in two week’s time.

Coláiste Naomh Cormac contest the B final for the first time, having been promoted as All-Ireland C winners last year.

St Brendan’s won the Leinster B in 2020, beating Dublin’s Árd Scoil Rís 0-14 to 0-9 in the final. They subsequently reached the All-Ireland final which was never played owing to Covid. Birr also reached the Leinster final last year but were beaten 0-16 to 1-15 by Johnstown.

With Coláiste Choilm Tullamore winning Lenister (and All-Ireland) honours at the grade in 2018, an Offaly school will take the title for the third time in five years – there was none in 2021.

Overall, six schools have won it five times. Good Counsel New Ross, Enniscorthy CBS, Callan CBS, Castlecomer CS, Cisercian College Roscrea and Birr (if the old PBC (4) and current CS (1) are combined). A win for Birr would see then go to the top of the roll of honour on their own.

Birr’s previous wins came in 1969, 1971, ’72 and ’73 as Presentation Brothers College Birr. They won the All-Ireland in 1969 and 1973.

For a long time, and up to recent years, the cup for this competition was called the Dr Staunton trophy. Probably named after a former President of St Kieran’s College who became Bishop of Ferns.

Tickets are €5. Enjoy the match.

Thank you. I researched most of it myself. I compiled the Roll of Honour myself from newspaper archives. These things really should be readily available, but aren't.

A lot of workrate and a lot of commitment made fot an enjoyable game yesterday. Yes, skill levels left a bit to be desired but conditons played a large part in this.

Ultimately the game was decided by Kilcormac’s ability to score from play. Adam Screeney floated over 0-03 from play and each one was a dagger through Birr’s heart. Alex Kavanagh added 1-01. The goal was flicked to the net after after some poor goalkeeping. And Daniel Hand clipped over a lovely point on the stand side in the 2nd half.

In comparison the Birr forward line only managed 0-01 from play over the 60mins. Corner forward Shane Connolly found his range but no one else managed too. And to all extents and purposes that was the game.
