Whoever gets the Offaly SF manager job, will find a key aspect of the job is man management. Dealing with players as individuals. This is apart from tactics, coaching, and whatever it takes in managing a football team.
I would agree with the comments that local selectors/ selectors are included with the new manager. No ideas on candidates, but would Stephen Rochford take the Offaly job, and resign from the Tullamore set up?

Stephen Rochford has a CV that merits consideration but the kick outs for Tullamore against Ballyboden would worry me given we are not producers of dominant aerial midfielders for a very long time and need to think our way out more than most. Also Tullamore are a very very good club team and when he went in there I genuinely thought they would go to another level but the final last year was even if not filled with Ferbane regret and tullamore relief. He’s defo worth speaking to but I wonder if it in my opinion hasn’t clicked fantastically with tullamore would it be any better with Offaly seniors.

Forget about Fitzmaurice and Tomas O Se. O'se will be eying up Kerry job and was likely offered Offaly job before after last involvement.

Christie reputation, and Solan reputations would've been stronger before Longford roles so not sure re them. Solan still in Longford.

Unlikely, to say the least of it. There are a few potential Offaly managers on the go in the county, but even if any of them got it, they'd probably need a sprinkling of stardust from outside.

Paschal Kelleghan probably the leading domestic contender, alongside maybe Niall Stack (if he's interested and in a position to take it on), and in Stack's case, I don't think he's been involved with an adult team since the new rules came in, though I'm open to correction on that.

John Rouse, George Digan, Ger Rafferty, Benny O'Brien, Roger Ryan, Nigel Dunne, Paul McConway, these are all good intelligent football men that would be an asset to a good management team (and that's not an exhaustive list, there are plenty more) but it's a rare management team out there that doesn't have at least one key figure with experience of being part of an elite, All-Ireland chasing set up. It's not essential, but there is value to that experience all the same.

Give me a couple of lads on the setup that have been involved on the domestic scene and have knowledge of the players, and I'd be happy enough, regardless of whether they fill the top job, or other roles.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Maybe the county board will think outside the box and make an approach to Cieran Kilkenny.

I wouldn't have Pascal Keelaham as the standout candidate. Niall Stack, yes I can definitely see something in that. Of the others mentioned, if you're talking about senior inter-county level and what's required, it's not just about the experience they've built up over the years. It's about having the know how to walk into a senior inter-county dressing room, command respect, and make the team better.
It's hard to identify the ideal candidates, but from that list, you'd imagine that, even though he'd be the youngest, Dunne would probably have the most to offer. Potentially John Rouse as well and he also has the experience which Dunne may not have .Then, for a selector's role, someone like Ger Rafferty could bring a bit of energy and edge to the setup.
Beyond those names, it's a different challenge altogether walking into a senior inter-county dressing room. Even the lads I've mentioned would carry a degree of risk, but from the outside looking in, they seem like the strongest options.

He is half Offaly. There are potential pitfalls. All through his career in Dublin he's had an army in flunkies in the backroom team laying everything out for him. He just had to get to the training ground on time. He'd have limited exposures to the realities of running a team, especially one that's not big budget. Maybe a year getting his hands dirty with a club, or as a county selector would benefit him.

McGeeney took the Kildare job shortly after retiring from playing, no management experience and did ok. Why not Kilkenny? Would be a breath of fresh air for Offaly.

The main difference would be he'll play for his club fully for another 5-6 years. He could easily have kept playing for Dublin for probably another two.

It’s not going to happen. Kilkenny has never expressed interest in management to my knowledge and is still young enough to play for his club for many years.

The new manager has to be someone with a fair insight into Offaly football. I remember with Kearns there were open trials, which is fair enough. But the manager at this stage won’t be able to see a reasonable amount of the club championships, which is a problem.
