Lost to Tipp 1-22 to 1-13. 0-04 in the second half is fairly dire at any team of the year.

J Dempsey
D King
C McDonald
P Camon
D Mooney
K Brady
M Cleary
S Gardiner
S Ryan
C Egan
D Molloy
C Parlon
S Dooley
J Bergin
O Kealey

Just saw that team on Twitter according to Alan Walsh

Offaly hurled Galway yesterday in Banagher and lost 3-16 to 0-10.

Which by my calculations means we've lost our last 3 challenge games by a combined 37 points!!

Thankfully Emmet's winning matches!!

Even in the glory days, Offaly tend to lose about 80% of challenge matches to the top counties.
4 points is a very disappointing 2nd half return all the same.

yes the 4 points return in the second half was poor, but i belive Dooley missed a hat of frees
today, good run out all the same again a fine tipp side.

All credit to experimenting at the end of the day, but D King C McDonald & P Camon does not a full-back line make. A decet half-back line, on screen, but not a full-back line.

This was a very poor showing against a Tipp outfit that had 3 starters from last years team as far as I could make out plus 3-4 subs. They had a minor at centreback. A flukey goal brought our lads back into it just when it looked that Tipp would be going into ht 7-8 points up. If it wasn't for the spell before half time where we got a good few scores mainly from frees we would have been looking at a fair beating.

Offaly probably got around 8 points from frees. Plus a lot of the team looked to have wintered too well. The Tipp lads looked leaner and fitter.

No I didnt. I was there but I didnt see the team at all. I was relying on lads that werent there to fill me in.

The point is that it was very disappointing to see the way the match went (& the conditioning of some of the Offaly players) when they were up against a very weak opposition. I wasnt expecting a minor centreback to hold the fort against the likes of Dooley Molloy or Parlon.

The team that started against Galway on Saturday: James Dempsey; David King, Chris McDonald, Michael Cleary; Dermot Mooney, Kevin Brady, Seán Gardiner; Brian Carroll, Seán Ryan; Tom Carroll, Derek Molloy, Colm Coughlan; James Mulrooney, Cathal Parlon, Tomás Bolger

And the team that lined out against Tipperary yesterday: James Dempsey; David King, Chris McDonald, Pat Camon; Dermot Mooney, Kevin Brady, Michael Cleary; Seán Gardiner, Seán Ryan; Colin Egan, Derek Molloy, Cathal Parlon; Shane Dooley, Joseph Bergin, Odhrán Kealey 0-1. Subs used: Brian Carroll, Tom Carroll, James Mulrooney, Danny Kelliher, Tomás Bolger.

A hectic weekend for most of them.

Bit of a surprise that Tipp Minor Manager would allow his 6 to play Senior !!!!

Most counties are even holding their U21's back !!!

It was last years minor centreback actually, I presume hes not still minor! Some horse of a man.

I thought Parlon & Egan did well. Joe Bergin was disappointing. But hurling 2 days in a row is not the best.

Also add to that a heavy training session last Friday night, it is easy to see why the team faded in the second half v Tipp

I dont think the hurlers are up to much at all this year. Cant see how they have improved at all under Baker. Some panelists arent even standing out in club games as far as i can see. Dont want to be too negative and i know its hard to bring lads through given the shocking performances of minor and 21 teams in recent years. What would be considered success for the hurlers this year???

Offaly lost by four points to Waterford today in a challenge match played in Heywood Community School.

I know it's difficult to read anything into challenge matches but it was definitley an improvement on last weekend. I think Offaly scored around 1-21.

Some of those Waterford hurlers are some mouthpieces particularly Brick Walsh and Kevin Moran.

Team (hopefully someone will fill in the blanks for me)

1 James Dempsey
2 Stephen Egan
3
4
5 Sean Gardiner
6 Rory Hanniffy
7 Del Morkam
8 Dermot Mooney
9 Sean Ryan
10 Brian Carroll
11 Derek Molloy
12 Cathal Parlon
13 Colm Coughlan
14 Joe Bergin
15 James Mulrooney

Joe Bergin was on the frees in Shane Dooley's absence.
