Looks like the U20 final is being moved back a week.
Pity, as it plays into Cork's hands. They get Eoin Downey back and it probably gets played in a more preferable venue for them.

Last years game Offaly were treating like a final and they turned us over badly at home. Make no mistake about it, Carlow supporters expect them to win this. Offaly will need to perform better than they have in the last two years.
Offaly are massive favourites against Carlow and rightly so
Offaly are 4/9 and Carlow are 13/8. Looks about right. Offaly should win, but Carlow have a decent shout.

Everyone is saying Downey will be back but will he actually? Cork are playing the Sunday beforehand, with the 7 day rule he wouldn’t be eligible, unless they had nothing riding on this game and could leave him off?

Rule is for a rolling 7 day period - Day 1 morning until Day 7 night. So in this case, Sunday morning until the next Saturday night.

So we should hope the game is Saturday 3rd? Makes most sense with Leaving Cert the following Wednesday

Cork would be too cute to allow that happen. Anyway seems like Sunday 4th confirmed. Game on.

Hopefully Tipp let us use Thurles now.. don’t think they’d like to see either side win 😆

All signs point to Thurles on June 3rd/4th, likely 4th because of Downey and the 7 day rule with the possibility of a double header with another game.

I think it should be moved but does anyone else think a couple of days before the leaving cert is madness? What’s wrong with moving it to the end of June? Or playing the U20’s in Croker next Saturday and moving the Joe Mcdonagh to the week after?

20s usually wouldn't be affected by this just so happens our team is so young.

Be grand it's only the leaving cert

I’d be inclined to agree with you, just looking out for their sake. There’s also lads who have college exams, it’s some mess they’ve made anyway.

Very unfair on lads doing leaving. Can't enjoy victory after or get over defeat. Player welfare obviously not being considered. Leaving cert most important exam these lads will do.

Not confirmed but I've seen a few texts suggesting it's almost a done deal.

would it not make more sense to move the mcdonagh final back a week?

its unacceptable that leaving cert students are pushed into playing a few days before their exams. surely common sense comes into the thought process with fixture makers?

I totally agree. Surely the Offaly county board won't accept this? While it gives the team an extra week to prepare for the final it puts severe pressure on lads sitting the Leaving Cert. The welfare of these lads is paramount.
