Re: Offaly senior football team 2012

Agree, think Allen would be a contender if a round and fit. Any idea on the team for sunday or is it being announced prior to the game, some interesting selections for the squad, relatively young and appear to be rather mobile though they appear to be shy of a few big strong men for me to man the ce...

Re: Lost in the Bog

while i am very much in favour of a Vincents team, and started this post initially, i am also of the opinion that the right decision has been made in the short term in not letting it go ahead. However, i do think that all 4 clubs should sit down and come with a proposal for next year and not have th...

Re: offaly senior football team 2012

when are the footballers out in the O Byrne cup and where is it on. would like to get a glimpse of some of these new players being called in. great to hear that their is a big clear out. There was a lot of dead wood going no place knocking around that squad for the last few years. hopefully there wi...

Re: Lost in the Bog

any news or developments on the vincents amalgamation lately. think it would be a great idea if the clubs were retained at their own level with players playing in both competitions senior with vincents and at junior/ inter with their own club. While i think it is more than possible in the vincents c...

Re: Players Of The Year

I think that all who are receiving awards are always worthy of them. of course there are always others who are in contention that may feel hard done by but such is life. As always in sport, people get disappointed. This is not the place however to come on and knock a lad who has given his best and a...

Re: offaly senior football team 2012

I attended a lot of the club games this year and seen all of gracefields matches bar one..i dont understand all the hype bout this ruairi allen..sure he's a strong lad and would be able to mix it physically but if he was to play centre back at inter county level he'd be out of his depth all togethe...

Re: Lost in the Bog

On point of fact, none of what you say can be disagreed with. Take the same player with the same natural ability and put him in senior training sessions versus those of a junior club and as a general rule, he will improve more in the framework of the senior club. However this falls down on one cruc...

Re: Lost in the Bog

to be fair to junior and inter, the demands that are placed upon them in club training sessions are way off what would be expected of them at senior but is utterly dependent on management at club level. No matter what you say, players need to be challenged physically in training, they need a certain...

Re: Lost in the Bog

Jimbob, you have not answered as to why Noel Andrew and Bracken might be lost. Most county players spend 85% of their time in training with the county, and if a guy is dedicated with his club it will shine through. And the dedication to play county football needs to be there to. The guys you have s...

Re: Lost in the Bog

I think jimbob17 and Ahlethimoutwithit and Noel Graham should all get a room together. There is obviously some man love issues there. Absolutely not fargo, maybe it appears that i am playing his case for the seniors, however this is not the case at all. I am merely using him as an example of the ta...

Re: Lost in the Bog

I'm not trying to be confrontational and I see your point that it is a natural handicap for some lads to be born into clubs that aren't playing at a high level. However unless we create a Kerry-like system, which has been debated to death on the other thread, creating parish sides in Daingean or Ki...

Re: Lost in the Bog

I don't know that it's necessarily the case that there is a bias towards senior clubs in terms of picking county teams. Yes a lot more senior club players get picked, but it's no coincidence that these clubs are senior and that some of the ones you listed aren't - it's because while they might have...

Lost in the Bog

Been thinking about this lately and looking at the way other counties do things. In OY there is a tendency only to pick lads playing senior fball with their clubs. However, there is a massive area which is actually at the epicentre of OY football where players have no opportunity to play senior. The...

Re: Gerry cooney

Agree likj on that. you can add a few more names to that list too, plenty of lads who were just touching off that team and some who played in the earlier rounds. Conor Evans (year out), James Rafferty, James Coughlan, Trevor Phelan, James Keane, Thomas Coughlan, Kevin Lynam, Damien Hunt, Rory/ Ross ...
