The GAA’s Croke of Gold
(As posted on the site under my columns - any thoughts?) The recent US election, as well as showing us that the electorate of the US views GW Bush somewhat differently to the rest of us, has been widely recognised as an illustration of the deep divisions that run down the core of the American nation...

McIntyre
Twill be announced tomorrow morning anyway, so I'd say we'll know by then. Having dealt with him a little bit in a previous job, he's a very intelligent analytical man, and in that sense could do good things for us. As you say, he'll have even more managerial experience behind him, and all in all wo...

POTY
Bearing in mind that it'll largely be down to the club championship, I'd say Niall will get it. When you factor in the relative supply lines I'd vote for the Paw though. Useless and all as that is as I have no say whatsoever.

Rhode vs Portlaoise
Watching our various administrative feck ups over the past few months has been horrendous enough viewing, but I don't think I've ever seen an Offaly football team, club or county, fold like Rhode yesterday, and it was by far the most disappointing single thing to have happened over the last unpleasa...

Club football Review
Ye've all read this on the site - what do the various clubmen think ...... Hardly memorable, seldom surprising, and at times downright average, nonetheless the first steps towards Offaly’s senior football campaign in 2005 were taken this summer as players sought to establish themselves as good consi...

Horan
Not a huge fan of Padraig Horan to be honest. Terraces love a wild man (Roy Mannion or the Hippie - now there were hurlers!!) but Horan to me was just dirty. Like Galway people love Lynskey, and personally I'd respect him, but Horan to me was more a Silvie Linnane instead. And I don't like Sylvie .....

I agree
This has been a big problem for the footballers too. Lads have a great county championship, but either they're coming from Under-21 or they don't get noticed. Inky Ryan for Doon or Paul Rosney for Ferbane would be two examples I'd pick of lads who have matured well as older footballers and could mak...

I know
One thing I will say here is that our county board has generally had a good eye for managerial talent. You couldn't say there were any footballing neanderthals among Lyons, Nolan, O'Kelly and Fahy, which is part of the reason why this surprises me. Maybe we're judging too soon. I do remember Kilmurr...

Shark
You said it fella. As for the shark thing, it's simple enough. For years now our support is not what it was - all throughout the nineties we got away with having smaller numbers because basically all or games were in Croke Park, so even if you were dwarfed by the opposition support (usually Clare ya...

The Shark's Terrace hall of Fame.
Offaly fans of all ages!! I suggest we put together the ultimate fifteen in both codes of terrace heroes for posting on the site. This allstar team will be made up of Offaly players down through the years and on into today who have truly fired up the Offaly faithful on the sideline like no other - t...

A New era for the footballers
It seems the endless circle of appoint, blame, fire begins again. Kevin Kilmurray appears to be a shoo-in for the football managers job now. Personally without knowing a lot about him, I'd be a little disappointed. No great managerial track record, no obvious success training high quality teams, and...
