Re: U21 Hurling Championship.

I think there's a general misconception about the so called conveyor belt of talent that exists in Kilkenny. In the last 13 years Klkenny have won 3 All Ireland minor titles and two All Ireland under 21 crowns. Considering the amount of senior All Irelands they have won in the same period this is n...

Re: New Minor & Senior Hurling Management

I was a little alarmed to hear the county chairman telling Will on Radio 3 that a portion of the special hurling development funding that Offaly will receive from headquarters next year (45,000 I believe given to 5 weaker counties) will be used to keep Liam Sheedy on in some sort of advisory role a...

http://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/gaa/hurling/hurling-news/offaly-county-board-officials-escape-7945986 Presumably both Mr Bolands Senior and Junior are sore over the publication of this article written by Pat Nolan. It's incredible that these people take criticism personally instead of taking on boar...

Just seen this article which was published on 29th April. Is it gamesmanship or genuine on the part of the Longford manager?

Re: Congrats to Gallen Cs

Well done to Gallen CS. Great achievement for a relatively small school to win women's and men's All-Irelands in the one year. It is important to acknowledge that players come from a catchment area wider than just Ferbane parish, including Pullough and Shannonbridge.

Re: 2016 National League Div 3

Great victory today. Offaly played with great pace, intensity and team spirit. Mickey Brazil, Eoin Carroll and Nigel Dunne were superb. Sean Pender stood out in a very good Offaly defence. Unfortunately basic errors and poor shot selection let us down too many times. If we rectify these we have a te...

Re: new offaly constituency?

Does anyone know why Joe Hannigan didn't call for a recount? He was only 17 votes behind John Leahy when he got eliminated. Recounts, or at least rechecks, have been demanded by candidates in other constituencies where the margins were wider.

Re: Allianz Hurling League Roinn 1B 2016

Sam, excellent points there about the danger of burnout for young hurlers. Before I read your post I was wondering why do young players not commit to senior intercounty when it offers them the chance to develop and display their skills at the highest level. But your post puts things in context. Ther...

Are you referring to the town or the GAA grounds?! I am not sure how either or both being 'a dump' gives Kildare more of an advantage!

Re: John Egan RIP

I am very sorry to hear of Johnny Egan's passing. Poignantly, he was chosen to be inducted into the Offaly Football Hall of Fame next month. Having served Offaly for so long and with such great distinction he was unlucky to lose out on winning an All Ireland medal, playing his final game for the cou...

Re: Paddy Hanamy RIP

The book The Furlongs by Pat Nolan has a few pages on the 1947 team on which Mickey Furlong featured. Offaly beat Carlow by 14 points and Kildare by 23 points to reach a first ever Leinster final. They met a Dublin team whose star player was Kevin Heffernan. Offaly were three points behind with time...

Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.

Does anyone know the names of the Offaly team that won the 1947 Leinster Minor title? I have heard of individual players on it such as Sean Foran, Mick Furlong, Paddy Casey and Kevin Scally but have never seen the full lineout.

Re: 2016 Championship

Bracknaghboy, you ignored Bloggs' key point that in a tight game home advantage is diluted in OCP. Personally, I am a bit of an agnostic on the venue issue. I can see merit in both sides of the argument and I think there should be some senior intercounty games played in Birr. I certainly don't see t...

Re: Seamus Darby

Good documentary. The bit I take issue with was deeming the '82 final as 'not a classic' and the first half as a 'torrid affair'. I had to listen back to make sure I was not hearing things! The first half of that match was as good football as ever played in any final in Croke Park. The narrator did ...
