Re: Ca bhfuil an Loan Shark?

I heard he'd become so disillusioned with the Irish financial system that he brought all his worldly posessions to the Cayman Islands.

Either that or he's busy campaigning for Libertas in the upcoming elections.

Offaly v Wexford - NHL Division 2 Final (03/05/2009)

Important game, very hard to call. My expectations depend entirely on what starting 15 is named. Currently the team is in a very undesirable state of unstability. The league loss against Wexford, in which Kenny was absent, would appear to have unleashed a wave uncertainty in the minds of the managem...

Re: 1995 Leinster hurling final on youtube

Ah what a day, probably that team's finest performance.
Only when you see what we are now relative to Kilkenny does it make you realise how truly special that group were.

RTE 1 - Pride of the Parish

This is turning out to be a truly great programme. Last weeks episode featuring Portumna GAA club presented by the Cannings was highly enjoyable but tonights (Friday 24th April 2009) epsiode featuring Inishturk GAA club was simply brilliant. Compared to Portumna this club was akin to the third world...

Re: Offaly Away Jersey

Lovely garment all right, would like to get it myself. Refreshing to see that the county has gotten the need for an away jersey taken care of. I honestly wasn't expecting that they would even consider it. However, given Offaly's record in bringing out new kits and getting them to the shops we should...

Re: Offaly v Antrim, NHL, 19/4/09

For the left corner position, ideally you need someone who can shoot well off their left side, which Currams would be better at than Cathal Parlon or Colm Coughlan. Does Colm Coughlan not shoot off his left? Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't he take frees off his left hand side? Unsure about Parl...

Re: Offaly v Antrim, NHL, 19/4/09

Agree completely regarding Currams. Perhaps Cathal Parlon or Colm Coughlan (free taker also) deserve a chance? Thought Rigney and Murphy were great. Clearly controlled the square well. Oakley was too loose and Hannify is wasted at wing back. Brady is a great wing back and did nothing spectacular at ...

Re: Wexford v Offaly, NHL, 5/4/09

Horrendous team. Not sure if you mean this 15 to be our best team for the Championship or for Antrim but in the grander scheme of things I'll presume it to be the former. Oakley at centre forward, Brady at full? Seriously? Do you want us to score at all or merely just throw some weight aorund? Midfi...

Re: Wexford v Offaly, NHL, 5/4/09

I previously mentioned this months ago, but no, no, to Hanniffy at centre back. He's a brilliant midfielder and a brilliant hurler but utterly wasted at centre back. Indeed as a centre back he is good without ever being eye catching. His natural instinct as a player is always to move forward, to att...

Re: Wexford v Offaly, NHL, 5/4/09

Very disappointing result. Conceding five goals points to serious difficulties in the full back line, as expected David Kenny was sorely missed. Without abusing hindsight, before the game I would have had slight misgivings over Ger Oakley being named at full back. Perhaps Brendan O'Meara may have be...

Re: Wexford v Offaly, NHL, 5/4/09

Great analysis as ever POTH. I, for the first time this year, am excited about an Offaly hurling match. As POTH mentioned this is the first real test of 2009 for this team. Result aside, this is an important opportunity to assess the strength in depth of the panel, something that I believe Offaly ha...

Re: Richie Connor - Interesting reading!

To the best of my knowledge jail is not an option in this case due to it being a civil case brought by one member of the public against another. It is not a criminal case that has been instigated by the State Prosecutor. Now wheter a criminal case can then be instigated by the Gardai following a gui...

Re: Help needed for photojournalism thesis on 125 years of GAA

Muck Savage makes an interesting point. Birr GAA grounds/St Brendan's Park is not where the first hurling Ireland was held. The field that holds that distinction is now occupied by Tesco. There is a large statue (yet to be unveiled) of a hurler in front of the store to commerate the historical aspec...
