Dooley Available For Dublin And Tipperary Matches

Post by JimBwobb »

Shane Dooley will be available for Offaly this weekend when they take on Dublin in Tullamore in the Allianz Hurling League.

The central hearings committee imposed a 4 week ban on the U.L player for striking with the hurley during the Fitzgibbon cup last week but the punishment does not affect inter county competitions

A 4 week ban from the Fitzgibbon? They might as well have given him an 11 month ban for all the difference it would make!

On fairness by missing the final, he did miss out. It's not like he got away unpunished.

Thinking of the game at the weekend, I can't believe how all the soundings from Anthony Daly are about not "underestimating the challenge" and the like. They really must think this is a foregone conclusion.

I'm not saying they're wrong, indeed I suspect they mightn't be, but even so it's odd to hear noise like that a from a Dublin camp.

I'll check that one in my GAA management speak translator.
What they say vs. what they really mean...

With all due respects to = We think they're sh1te.

We're not underestimating the challenge = We'll bate them if we aren't complacent

They'll be the bookies favourite = We'll be the bookies favourites, but we want to be the underdog.

There'll be a puck of a ball in it = We should beat them easily, but if we scrape through playing badly, I've already flagged it and it was all planned for.

They've a proud tradition = They are buck useless now though

We always respect them = We'll not forget to patronise them with praise

We'll put it up to them = We'll still lose

That translator device is mighty handy. Will need to look for one myself. What happens to the device if the manager says, 'We're prepared and ready, we've scouted the competition and we expect to win' (?) Does it blow itself up? Or does it just tell you that the manager was obviously misquoted and that some journo was just winding things up???!!!

Does not compute!
It might translates to ....
I've been drinking heavily
I've been reading a lot of international sports books and quotes...whilst drinking
Someone has accidentally pasted in a Jose Mourinho quote

A few more:

We were wrote off by the media! No one gev us a chance = I spent all week talking up the opposition and talking us down. 7 out of 10 papers tipped the others to edge it.

Them so-called experts on the Sunday Game are trying to get my players suspended = My players are out of control

He is targeted by the opposition and is more sinned against than sinning = He's a thug and he's out of control at the moment.

All we want is a fair play = We want a few dodgy decisions to go our way

He plays close to the edge = He is miles over the edge

They showed great pride in the jersey out there = My own training methods are substandard, morale has been terrible but somehow they didn't disgrace themselves as I expected.

Great examples!

I'd imagine that by 'breaking the code', any manager that shows confidence by explicitly stating it (heaven forbid) would have his team targeted for a 'beat them at any cost campaign'. Just think of all the people who could figure out how feel 'insulted' by such 'arrogance'. Certainly any such manager and their team would need to be put in their place as soon as possible!!!
