Well done to Niall. He is certainly worth his place.

Shields to put county above country

Cork defender Michael Shields will miss Saturday's first International Rules Test against Australia due to club commitments.

The All-Star full-back will play for St Finbarr's in the Cork SFC final against Nemo Rangers the following day, and has decided to opt out of the international clash in Limerick.

However, Leighton Glynn of Wicklow and Brendan Murphy of Meath are both expected to play for Ireland on Saturday, despite the fact that they have important club games less than 24 hours later.

Manager Anthony Tohill has already drafted Niall McNamee of Offaly into his squad as a replacement for the injured Benny Coulter.

I wonder will he have much interest in fairness with Rhode ready to have a run at Leinster. Donnaghy and Gooch already pulled out citing club activity.

I don't see why not? Players should be well able for both.
Cooper was probably better off pulling out as he was hardly going to get picked.
