Reeling in the years for Joe Dooley

Just like old times - Dooley

23 July 2010

Joe Dooley says it was just like the good old days for Offaly's hurlers in 2010.

Reflecting on his three-year term at the Faithful helm, the Offaly manager points out: "They are a great bunch of lads to work with. There's no discipline problems with them or hassle with them, they just want to do well.

"They are there for the good of Offaly hurling and we have a good back-up team as well. It is very enjoyable, particularly when you have good results and you can see progress.

"What was most pleasing this year was the way the supporters got behind us. It was like the old days when people were talking about games and coming to matches.

"I was meeting people in shops and places that hadn't experienced that for years and their kids had never experienced it. That's great and that can only be good for Offaly hurling in the long term."

Jaysus, what rubbish would he come out with if we actually made some progress like even reaching a quarter final. I heard this claptrap driving home from Portlaoise last Sunday and it was pathetic. Time for this guy to step aside and let somebody with ambition take these hurlers to the next level :x

look i think Joe Dooley has done his best over the last three years with offaly, right fair enough we won nothing but who has
besides kilkenny in the last few years.

we got back to division one and stayed there which is good look if offaly are to break into the top level again we have to
fine some forwards even if Brian Cody was over us this year we wouldn't have beaten tipp last sunday .

we don't have the firepower up front to beat the likes of tipps kilkennys and corks at the moment so theres no point in saying that its
Joe dooleys fault that we are not making all ireland semil-finals or finals anymore.

we have came along way from the day kilkenny beat us bye 30 odd points a few years ago and yes i agreed with joe that the fans did come
out in big numbers this year to shout the hurlers on the two games again Galway were great, i know the tipp game was not great but as i
said before the game this is no bad tipp team and should have won last years final.

so well done to Joe Dooley on his on his last three years with offaly there wasn't to many looking to take over offaly hurling after
the great team of the 90s were gone so who ever is with them in 2011 lets hope we can take another step up the hurling ladder.
