Wasn't Simon annoyed years ago when Mike Mac put him on umpiring duties for a challenge match?leinsterman wrote: yes it is simon who is reffing this match hear he is not to bad, he is going to take over from the legend that is the dinger walsh
It turns out he may have a flair for match officialdom!

Re: Upcoming Club Fixtures
It was McIntyre who was in charge that year (2005). Though Mike Mac carefully steered the team into Division 2 the year before.leinsterman wrote: would mike mac being over offaly when carlow beat us or was he gone

Best of luck to Simon. God knows, Offaly needs a few decent hurling refs

Re: Upcoming Club Fixtures
Simon Whelan has been reffing for about 2 years now, and I have to say he isnt bad, hes pretty fair and doesnt let lads chop the head off ya so hes better than most of the refs in offaly so far!!

Re: Upcoming Club Fixtures
Clareen beat Birr in the Under 21 semi. A last puck of the ball goal to win it by a point. Very controversial as the goal came from a 21 yard free which was blocked and the resulting scramble led to the goal. Clareen actually got two goals which were more like "pick and drives" than hurling goals. James Mulrooney, Barry Harding and a young Murphy guy who is minor were the pick of the players in a disappointing game.

do you think he should be in with the county team he was down to be a sub at the D.I T. game in the walsh cup. i have seen him play minor
and under21 with offaly and with senior for birr could be a good one.
