I'm surprised this is such a big deal to be honest? It's a physical game and in training sometimes things get a bit heated. Obviously it's rare that a player would hit another player like that and the kick on the ground doesn't look good but I'd be very surprised if this doesn't happen at least once in every team in Aussie rules?

Physical men, in a physical game with adrenaline pumping?? I'd be very surprised!!!

My understanding is that it's the kick on the ground that has made all the difference. The punch would have led to a red card (or whatever their equivalent is) but the kick on the ground has offended the Aussie sensibilities a bit.

On the other hand there could be any number of things going on here - perhaps it's a good excuse for Carlton to get out of a contract signed when they were banned from drafting?

Well I'd have to agree with them on that to be honest. It's one of the most cowardly things any fella can do. When I see it I go mad and it's one of the worst things that's creeped into Irish culture lately, but apart from that I don't see that much wrong with it!
