Of all Offaly players (hurling/football) who only ever played in one championship campaign, who has the highest amount of appearances?
Clue. This feat was achieved before the introduction of the backdoor.
P.S. POTH is barred from answering.

Re: Question #1 - Single season campaigner with most appearances
Pat O'Connor is ruled out, cos he had appearances in more than one championship campaign.
I should add that it is any sort of appearance - starting or coming off the bench counts (or eliminates).
To make it a bit easier, I'll tell ye who it isn't...
It isn't Kevin Meehan who racked up 5 appearances in 2003 and has not featured in championship since.
Nor is it Declan Tanner who played in 5 matches in 2006.
* The above 2 players had the benefit of the qualifiers.
Examples of players who played 4 times in their only championship year:
Darren Hanniffy 1998
Trevor Phelan 2006
Vincent Mooney 1997
Our mystery star is out on his own with 6 appearances (all starting).

Could it be the great Larry Carroll from Clara at full back during 1997?

Spot on George!Georgio1 wrote:Could it be the great Larry Carroll from Clara at full back during 1997?
Larry had 6 appearances in 1997.
He should have had 7, but he had to pull out at the last minute against Westmeath in the drawn game.

The handy player lookup revealed this, but a few minutes too late.
Kevin Clancey. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Was looking at the question and Larry came to mind, and I think John Ryan played in the 98 championship at full back against Meath. Where do I collect me prize( 2 tins of Harp?)!

Two tins of Harp are making its way to you via email as we speak!Georgio1 wrote:Was looking at the question and Larry came to mind, and I think John Ryan played in the 98 championship at full back against Meath. Where do I collect me prize( 2 tins of Harp?)!
I think Larry ruptured his spleen the next year in the league for Offaly and once he moved location to Kildare, didn't feature for Offaly again.
