Rovers through to last four

Erin Rovers through

Published Date: 13 September 2009
A goal from Padraig Carroll early in the second-half proved the pivotal score as Erin Rovers progressed to meet Clara in the semi-final of the Senior Football Championship.
Tullamore Court Hotel SFC quarter final replay

Erin Rovers 1-8
Ferbane 0-9

Erin Rovers led by as many as six midway through the second half but Ferbane fought back hard and got within two.

Erin Rovers had one or two nervous moments at the end but they held on for a deserved win.

Oh go on then......

Basically Ferbane only played well for fifteen minutes over the two games, that being the closing stages of the game yesterday. The lads were heavy legged, off their game and for whatever reason, seem to have struggled to get back to the form of a few months ago. Erin Rovers definitely deserved this, they moved the ball very well and their pace caused us real problems around the middle sector of the field. Declan Kelly, Tom Spain and Jason Devery all spent some time at midfield and essentially they controlled the game by staying away from James Grennan and Colin Egan, roving up and down and using the full width of the pitch. Alan Lynam was sharp, hopefully getting back closer to his best and he took two very good points, while up front we really struggled to create anything. It was only in the latter stages when we ran at Rovers rather than tried to hit them from distance that we got any headway.

It's a pity to end the season on that kind of note, but after getting one reprieve the last day, it was too much to expect another unfortunately.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.
