Dooley to remain faithful to Offaly hurling cause for third year
Thursday September 03 2009
JOE DOOLEY is likely to see out the third year of his stint as Offaly senior hurling manager, though he is set to review the past season with county board officials before his tenure will be officially extended.
The three-time All-Ireland winner was appointed for three years with a scheduled review after two but after a progressive 2008 in which the Faithful beat Limerick in the championship before bowing out Waterford, this season was less impressive from Offaly.
After securing top flight league hurling with defeat of Wexford in the Division 2 final, Offaly were soundly beaten by the same opposition in their Leinster opener and then suffered a 13-point defeat to Cork in the qualifiers. Now though, having indicated his desire to remain in charge for next season, Dooley will meet with a county board delegation in the coming weeks to review last season and discuss plans for 2010.

It seems fair enough under the circumstances.
2010, starting the year in Division 1 will tell a lot about whether Offaly have progressed under Joe.

As good a time as any to note that Offaly's NHL fixtures next year (that's if they go the same as last year with the venues reversed) would be:-
Limerick (h)
Waterford (a)
Tipperary (h)
Cork (a)
Kilkenny (a)
Dublin (h)
Galway (a)
Limerick (h)
Waterford (a)
Tipperary (h)
Cork (a)
Kilkenny (a)
Dublin (h)
Galway (a)
Pat Donegan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

If Dublin and Limerick were at home, we'd have to go all out to win them.
Play for a draw in the rest of the matches!
If Birr was the home venue I'd fancy Offaly more.
Birr was always good to Offaly, results wise over the years.

Agreed, Limerick and Dublin would have to be seriously targeted if we are to entertain any notions of staying up. When will we know the times, dates and venues of League 2010 for certain?Bord na Mona man wrote:If Dublin and Limerick were at home, we'd have to go all out to win them.
