Fair play to Cribbin
He has been re-appointed as expected and I've new respect for the guy. He seems to have an idea of where we are at, what is wrong and what needs to be done to fix it. Here he recognises what Kildare have had to do to get where they are http://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic- ... 05641.html. Whilst here he talks about the physicality issue and how we are behind http://www.hoganstand.com/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=114533. Bracknaghboy is not a big believer in weights and gyms....more of a laps man myself but even I concede that you would want to be well bulked up to take on the likes of Dermot Early around the middle. At least Cribbin sees this and now has a good idea of the approach required to get the best out of Offaly football. Wouldn't it be nice if Joe Dooley let us know what he thought was wrong and how he intends to fix it for the hurlers!

Re: Fair play to Cribbin
Just to add to this, I was in Clara myself tonight, but I believe Cribbin was in Tullamore watching the football - and I'm delighted to hear that. For too long our county managers have had no interest in attending club games, (maybe they felt they weren't being paid enough
) but Cribbin, on every level, seems to be in this to do the best job possible, and to do that, he's going to make sure he identifies the players that suit his requirements best.
We are starting from a ridiculously low base, however I couldn't fault a single thing he's doing so far.

Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Delighted to see him continue, and would like to see him get a 3 year term with the footballers. He is a geniune guy who is in it for the love of the game. He now must get around 40 or so of a squad signed up to his ideals, and with a bit of hard work over the winter we may have something to look forward to. It is also vital that u21 squad are linked into this.

I'll echo the thoughts above.
Good to hear he has tangible plans for the year ahead.
It has been a while since we've had someone who has a medium and long term vision at the helm.
The lack of waffle from him is a relief too.
I feel he is the right man to root out players who aren't towing the line.
One aspect he needs to be wary of is the players working on their own over the winter.
Plenty of them slacked off on this in the past, so there needs to be closer monitoring.
I believe he can succeed in raising the bar for what it takes to wear the Offaly jersey.
The partying and carry on will dwindle if players have to work hard to keep their place on the panel.

leaving players to work on their own is a recipe for disaster over the winter. Training groups of 3/4 is ideal for gym work.
only the best...

I hope so.manfromdelmonte wrote:leaving players to work on their own is a recipe for disaster over the winter. Training groups of 3/4 is ideal for gym work.
Though some players go boozing in groups or 3 or 4 and under Roe there were groups of lads dossing around the gym instead of pumping weights.
I'd prefer to see some element of supervision myself.
