Coffey not interested in full-time role
12 February 2009

Interim Offaly football boss Tom Coffey has made it clear that he is not interested in taking the post permanently.

Coffey’s selectors Phil O’Reilly and Vinny Claffey have also ruled themselves out of the running for the job on a full-time basis. Coffey and O’Reilly are committed to managing their clubs Rhode and Tullamore for the year, while Claffey is building a house at the moment and had planned to take a year out of management.

Commenting on last Monday night’s county board meeting, Coffey said: "The meeting sanctioned that we are a caretaker management package for this weekend. We got a list of players who have been on the panel for the last five or six weeks and called them to a training session last night.

"It’s a 100 per cent caretaker job for this week only. We have been put on a committee to select a manager. I am committed to Rhode for this year and for how long after that I don’t know."

Stephen Darby and Laz Molloy are both seen as possible replacements for Richie Connor, who resigned last weekend, but are currently committed to managing club sides Carbury and Tyrrellspass respectively.

A little dickie bird has told me that Hackett is a very strong front runner for the job. I can remember him from before and he didn't exactly pull up any trees although as BNM has already stated we were in a pretty bad state then too.
