Map of Clubs
Map of Clubs
Folks,
Anyone know where I could access a map of Offaly which shows all clubs and their catchment areas. I've seen the parish maps on the irish times site but thats not exactly the same thing.
Cheers.

Not exactly what I'm looking RhodeRunner for but thanks for your help anyway. I'm looking for one that would show club boundaries.RhodeRunner wrote:http://milford.limerick.gaa.ie/gaaclubmap.html that any good to ya?

Re: Map of Clubs
I could help with this project as my job involves map designation and production. To get the catchment area of each club, what you would need is a list of all clubs in Offaly and the townlands or Electoral Divisions associated with each club. After that then I could help towards the design of such a map.
Re: Map of Clubs
Thanks manfromdelmonte. Thats the map I saw on the times websibe but it doesn't show club breakdowns. Like Ballinahown parish - Ballinahown isn't a club and you can't see on that map where the catchment areas for Ballycumber and Doon and whoever else is.manfromdelmonte wrote:http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/brow ... falyrc.htm
Happytohelp,
That sounds like a lot of work but cheers anyway. Someone in the county board must have a map. I'm sure it would be needed when there've been cases of people playing for the wrong club.

Re: Map of Clubs
That's an Electoral Divisions Map, it's how the county is broken up for voting & administration. It's nothing really to do with GAA, because I know of a couple on instances where 'agreements' were reached over certain areas which would differ from the electoral map.
I doubt there is an actual map, but a series of agreements written down, and a few sketches, which cover the delineation between clubs. I really don't think the GAA would openly publish anything like this.

That's a good map RhodeRunner. Cheers for downloading it. That'll certainly be a help along with the Irish times one.

Could you tell me what "agreements" you know of?

RhodeRunner's own area has one of the most potentialy devisive areas in the world, more volatile at times than the Gaza Strip. The county boundary on this occasion between Meath and Offaly counts for little after the 'Padraig Dunne affair' which saw the re-establishment of Clonmore Harps in the late 1980s. It was decided that certain families even would play for Clonmore on the Offaly side and Ballinabrackey on the Meath side. Dunne repaid Clonmore well by transfering to Rhode. This is just one and at the other end Tipperary got Moneygall and we got Ger Oakley....Can't fathom the fairness there

There are several similar to the Meath/Rhode/Clomnore mentioned above.Newcomer wrote:Archangel wrote: Could you tell me what "agreements" you know of?
One area I know is designated to Tullamore, but any footballers there play for a different club, and it's a sensitive issue, one I've only been told the outline story so to speak. Just go to your home club and ask one of the 'elders' where are the disputed areas, and I'm sure you will find families or parts of areas which are in one 'area' but play for a different club. It's a minefield.

I can't recall Moneygall producing a hurler in recent years who would get near the Offaly team.Coolestown1562 wrote:This is just one and at the other end Tipperary got Moneygall and we got Ger Oakley....Can't fathom the fairness there
Playing in such a poor competition as the Tipperary club championship hardly helps them!

Re: Map of Clubs
So after all thats been posted would i be right in thinking that the areas on the map are actually correct? and then in later years boundaries are modified in some places? say a couple of mile or so? would that be a fair assumption?
Or is there a completely different map out there somewhere?

That can of worms i think is going to be reopened shortly - 2 lads from the ballinabrackey side playing for Rhode, Both payed for Offaly last year i think.. underage. I've already heard a complaint from the meath crowd..It was decided that certain families even would play for Clonmore on the Offaly side and Ballinabrackey on the Meath side
