Very thick tonight, i met this guy in a bar, a friend of my friend. he shite-talking about tipp hurling etc. now i dont mind slagging etc. But he was going on about Tipp last weekend and how they bet the shit out of Offaly and i said straight out to him "Listen here name the Tipperary team that started against Offaly and i will give you 50 euro - he named Cummins, Corcoran, O'Mahony, Dunne, Kelly and Corbett. and that was it. Wasnt at the game but shite talks in the pub about this and that.
i said him. cummins. curran, fanning, buckley, dunne, o'mahony, corcoran, maher, caesar, kerwick, o'dwyer, o'brien, burke, corbett, kelly.

I dont mind slagging etc and i told this guy that Tipp are a better hurling team than Offaly at present, but dont shite talk to me about something you dont know feck all about.

For the size of Tipperary its an embarrasment that only just over 3000 supporters turned up for this game. as i expect tipp will probably get to a semi final or quarter later in the year and then we will see how many of these apes will be at games.

Your experience was not in any way unusual. The fact is that 99% or so of Tipp fans have this unwarranted arrogance when it comes to their hurling teams. I call it the ''Life on Mars'' syndrome, the think they're stuck in the 1970s when they could really compete. I would hazard a guess that this guy was from the North of the county, most likely from a club not a million miles from Offaly who have never won much at club level, these seem to be the ones with the biggest chip on their shoulders.

The best way to deal with them is to agree with everything they say as this unnerves them (it's something to do with inbreeding and the fact that they can't agree with each other).

Finally, Tipp may appear to be well ahead of Offaly at the moment but I'd ask this, would anyone hear balk if we draw Tipp at some stage of the championship this Summer? Leaving aside the results of the last 2 Sundays, Offaly have never had reason to fear Tipp when the chips are down in championship and that shouldn't change regardless of league results or the relative health of the respective teams.

This is my first post to this excellent site..finally got Broadband in the south of the county..No better way to start my posting than with a good dig at my pet hate...Tipp fans (not all..but most)hope de wife dosent read this))

They have to be the most annoying of all supporters..I know exactly what you mean about the tipp supporters from north of the county..most of them are probably voting in offaly but for some unknown reason they've chosen to follow tipp in hurling??? Im surprised they havent tried to lay claim to Brendan Murphy Ger Oakley and David Franks in the past...Anyone remember what happened to offaly supporters coming back from the 1984 All Ireland that was played in Thurlas?? Passing through two certain North Tipp towns?? Similar experiences occured coming back from the 1995 final when Tipp flags were turned into Clare flags?? At least we got one up on them on sat..even if it is div4 Football........

On a different note...if the rumours are true bout Damien Murray thats a pity..

I don't think anyone tends to get on well with their neighbours, though Tipp fans do have a tendency to consider themselves part of a "big 3" which on current form is a bit nonsensical. They'd also be the county most likely to come out with garbage along the lines of how a Munster championship is much tougher to win than an All Ireland or some such, but as was pointed out, agreeing with them completely and utterly seems to confuse them, since they're usually geared up for a contrary debate.

Maybe this is my geographical location coming out, but it's one thing being next to arrogant supporters who have something to be arrogant about - try living next to Westmeath. They won an Under 21 All Ireland once don't you know.

Geography is critical, I thought Westmeath were okay until I worked in Athlone for a while.

And now that I'm no longer working in Tipperary I don't find them quite as bad, funny enough I'm growing to dislike Laois as much if not more!! (Guess where I'm working now!)
