Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
Thurles would be a great place for it too. That Offaly team is made for Thurles.
Depends who's in it. Don't be surprised if it's Galway facing Clare in the other quarter final.
Anyway, most important thing is that Offaly are there.
The last line is indisputable.
In terms of the venue ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
The problem with this debate is that each case is individual, and it's not fair to get into the reasons when some of us might be very well-informed in SOME instances, but unless you're going to have management and players alike go on the record, there's going to be an element of speculation involved ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
Lets be balanced here.
In his first year in charge, but also as joint manager with Mickey Harte, Declan Kelly took a hardline approach to who he wanted and didn't want on the panel. As manager/co-manager, that is his right, it's not reasonable to give someone a job and then dictate how they do it ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
Roo MC wasn't dropped ? He left of his own accord ..... also certain players I won't name names haven't been brought back because of their disgusting attitude towards some of the younger lads the group ....if you are as in the know as you pretend to be your will know who I'm talking about .....so ...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
I'm a huge fan of PM O'Sullivan's writing and I would recommend his substack very highly, and he made a good point about how the new system this year, with four weeks of clear run into the quarter-finals for the 3rd placed teams, is an ideal block to get a lot of work done, and have a little bit of ...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
Just saw a post online stating the Offaly Wexford match will not be broadcasted or streamed anywhere this weekend
This is terrible for supporters who cannot get to the game.
The problem on this subject is that there is no way for the GAA to win on this. It's impossible to make a game ...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
Absolutely, first and foremost it's best wishes to Charlie, both now and in the long term. He's a fierce likeable lad with infectious passion for the game, and more than anything else, you'd hope that's not taken away from him. Strictly speaking, sport is a trivial rather than an important thing in ...

Re: U20 hurling 2026
I think that there has to be a line you draw somewhere, and for me, I would try and facilitate dual players at minor level. That mightn't be optimal for that player in that season, but in the long run, I think it'll work out better for them if they're accommodated, particularly when so much of the ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
The Offaly team of 2025 is absolutely favourites for this competition, or at worst, narrowly second favourites to Down. The Offaly team of 2026 is nowhere close to that level.
I would never place money down against an Offaly team, but the three point handicap on this looks very low, in my ...

Re: U20 hurling 2026
I'm not involved in the county on the ground to say what it's like at that underage club/development squad level, but I do remember talking to Michael Duignan in advance of his election when we did interviews with both him and Tommy Byrne, and he was strongly against that exact development squad ...

Re: U20 hurling 2026
Just on the Leo O'Connor comments above.. I'm neither for or against his future senior managerial prospects but the skill gap I saw today in kilkenny and last week against Dublin was far more deep rooted than a season of coaching.
Players 18, 19 and 20 lacking fundamental striking, catching and ...

Re: U20 hurling 2026
I feel sorry for the players today
There young they will get over it
But for one or two it could be the straw that breaks the camels back and walk away from the game I fear that
You can bring in stats about population
But one thing nobody is talking about is the lack. Of males been born in the ...

Re: U20 hurling 2026
Your comparison of Roscommon to Offaly, while containing many valid points, is missing one absolutely key point of information.
Which is, there is nowhere near the same numbers devoted to hurling in Roscommon, proportionally, as there is in Offaly.
People from Four Roads GAA look away now, but ...

Re: U20 hurling 2026
Every underage manager's job is to take the players at his disposal and to lead a coaching group that will improve those players, and make them the best that they can be, individually and collectively. The only way to assess that is to measure how they stand relative to where the same group of ...
